Men's Lacrosse Falls at No. 2 Virginia, 13-7

The Drexel men's lacrosse team opened the 2009 season with a 13-7 loss at the University of Virginia. The Cavaliers, ranked first in the nation by Nike/Inside Lacrosse and second in the USILA poll, scored the first seven goals before the Dragons got on the board.
Virginia senior Garrett Billings tied his career high with five goals and also had two assists. Mark Manos had 17 saves for the Dragons in his first career game. He played the entire 60 minutes.
Virginia opened the game with six different players scoring to build a 7-0 lead after 22 minutes of play. Drexel scored three consecutive goals to draw within four at 7-3 early in the third quarter but the Dragons couldn't get any closer.
Kevin Stockel scored three goals for the Dragons. Kyle Bergman and Scott Perri each picked up a goal and an assist. Greg Casey and freshman Dana Wilber also had goals for Drexel, who returns to the field next Saturday against Penn at Vidas Field. The Dragons scored three goals on the man-up advantage. Virginia outshot Drexel, 59-23, and won 13 of the 24 face-offs.
