Fairfax, Va. - Kate Hynes captured her fourth consecutive Colonial Athletic Association Diver of the Year Award as well as her fourth 1-meter and 3-meter titles at the CAA Championships. In her final event, Hynes broke her own meet record with a 363.35 in the 1-meter finals her victory margin of 63.85 points left a lasting impression on the Colonial Athletic Association. Along with Hynes' awards, Drexel Head Diving Coach Larry May was named the CAA Women's Diving Coach of the Year for the fourth consecutive season. Maria Coman broke her own school record in the 100 back to highlight Drexel's swimming action. As a team, the Drexel women's swimming & diving team placed ninth out of the nine teams competiting.
On the 3-meter board, Hynes faced a solid challenge from George Mason's Lisa Faulkner throughout the competition as Faulkner posted a 316.90 in the preliminaries while Hynes posted a 347.90. In the finals, Hynes left little doubt as she recorded a score of 352.60 while Faulkner took second place with a score of 301.20. Hynes' score in the finals was less than 12 points off of her own conference and conference championships record set last year of 364.15. The 1-meter championship was Hynes' from the beginning as the senior racked up 342.05 in the preliminaries before her record-setting 363.35 total in the finals. No other diver scored 300 or more points in the 1-meter preliminary or finals.
In addition to Hynes' record-breaking performance, Jessica Csakai put etched her name in the Drexel record books as she posted the third-fastest time in school history with a 5:07.85 in the preliminaries of the 500 free. Maria Coman matched Csakai's feat in the 200 IM as the sophomore recorded a career-best 2:10.49 in the third-fastest 200 IM ever swam in school history. Coman then broke her own school record in the 100 back with a time of 58.31 in the preliminaries. In the same event Devina Tyagi swam a career-best 1:00.02 to tie for second place on the all-time top times list with Lisa Van Pelt behind Coman. In her final assault on the record books, Coman recorded a 2:08.77 in the 200 back prelims to move up from third to second on the Drexel all-time fastest list in the event.
