Casey's Four Goals not Enough as Albany Defeats Drexel, 13-11

Philadelphia, Pa. – Albany broke an 8-8 tie with two goals in the final minute of the third quarter and defeated Drexel, 13-11. The win improved the Great Danes record to 4-1. Greg Casey scored four goals and had a pair of assists in the loss for the Dragons (2-4).
Albany's Joe Resetarits scored a pair of key goals late in the third quarter to ignite the Great Danes. He tied the contest at eight with an unassisted goal with 2:26 left in the third and then put the Danes ahead for good with just 47 seconds left in the quarter. Albany took a two-goal lead just 30 seconds later when Brian Caufield scored his third goal of the game to make it 10-8. Drexel couldn't get any closer than two goals the rest of the way. The Great Danes increased the lead to four goals before Drexel scored a pair of goals on the extra man midway through the fourth quarter. Joe Wojciechowski had the first of the two and with 6:54 left, freshman Kyle Bergman put home a Casey feed from right in front to cut it to 12-10. Albany stopped the Dragons' momentum just 10 seconds later. The Danes won the face-off and Corey Small scored an insurance goal with Resetarits assisting.
The Dragons scored the first two goals of the game just 15 seconds apart in the early going. Bergman started the scoring and Dennis Murray followed with his first of the year. The lead was short lived as the Danes scored the next two goals. Drexel took a 3-2 lead after the first period when Casey scored his first goal of the day. The teams stayed within a goal of each other the rest of the half. Albany took a one-goal lead to the break when Caufield scored with two Dragons in the box with 38 seconds to play in the half.
Casey finished the day with a career-high six points and had four goals. Scott Perri handed out three assists, while Wojciechowski and Bergman scored a pair of goals. Small and Caufield each had three goals and two assists for the Danes. Resetarits chipped in with three points. Albany's John Carroll played well in the cage and finished with 17 saves.
Drexel outshot Albany, 44-32. The Danes scored three times in the first half on the man-up and finished 3-for-5 with the extra man. The face-offs were fairly even with Albany winning 14 of the 27 draws. Albany's Matthew Cushing won nine of his 14 attempts. Drexel's Nick Kusturiss was 12-for-21 and had eight ground balls.
The Dragons are off until Saturday when they host Lafayette at noon.
