Baltimore, Md. - Freshman hurler Hillary Allen pitched a complete-game gem in Drexel's 2-0 blanking of Fairleigh Dickinson, the Dragons' first win at the UMBC Dawg Pound Tournament. The Dragons improved to 3-5 with the victory and dropped Marist to 0-3 on the season. Drexel won both of its games on day two at the UMBC Tournament.
Allen threw six and two-thirds shutout innings from the mound. She let up just three hits and surrendered a walk while fanning four Knights in her first career pitching victory. Drexel manufactured two runs behind her, which was all the offensive support she would need.
The Dragons got on the board in the second inning when Rachel Campbell drew a bases-loaded walk to plate Ashley Botelho from third base. Botelho drove in Drexel's second run in the fourth inning on a single to right field that plated Paige Collings from second base. Botelho is just one hit shy of 100 in her Drexel career.
Drexel will face the host UMBC Retrievers tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. before playing in the tournament championship game in Baltimore.
