Fairfax, Va. - Hillary Allen earned her third pitching victory of the weekend on Sunday as the Dragons closed out a sweep of the George Mason Patriots (14-23, 0-9) with a 3-1 win. Ashley Botelho went 4-for-4 with two doubles. Senior Christina Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with an RBI and she touched the plate for her 104th time as a Dragon to set a new career record for runs scored. Drexel is now 18-11 on the season and 6-3 in CAA play.
After picking up the winning pitching decisions in both games on Saturday, Allen took the ball again for the Dragons on Sunday. She earned a complete-game victory after scattering five hits and three walks without allowing an earned run. One day removed from her career-high seven strikeout performance, Allen sat down six Patriots on Sunday.
Errors proved to be George Mason's undoing in the tight game. Paige Collings reached on an error in the first inning and came around to score on an RBI single by Rodriguez to give Drexel an early 1-0 lead.
The Dragons plated two more runs in the third innign with the help of two fielding errors by the Patriots. Botelho led off with her first double of the day and Rodriguez reached on a bunt single. After an error by the Patriots' second baseman allowed Sandi Wambold to reach base and Botelho to score, Allen helped her cause with an RBI groundout to make it 3-0.
Allen held the Patriots in check for the first six innings of the game before squeaking out a run in the final frame. A lead-off walk issued by Allen came around to score after a past ball and an RBI single by Alyssa See. But Allen settled down and struckout Alison Bryan to end the game and give her team its first conference series sweep of the season.
Drexel is back in action on Wednesday with the Dragons travel to reprise with Fairleigh Dickinson, a team they beat to win the Capital City Classic in March, on Wednesday, April 8 at 3:00 p.m.
