
Dragons Look to Derail Red-Hot UMBC on Saturday

Philadelphia - Following their 2-0 victory over La Salle on Wednesday, the Dragons will travel to take on the UMBC Retrievers in Baltimore this weekend. Drexel enters the match with a 4-1-0 mark has yet to lose on the road this season. The Dragons will face a UMBC squad that is undefeated in six matches this season and has outscored its opponents 20-4. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at UMBC Soccer Stadium. Last Meeting: The teams last faced each other was on Sept. 13 of last season when they dueled to a scoreless draw. Senior keeper Cory Robertson made a season-high nine stops in net and UMBC goalie Steve King saved seven for their respective shutouts.
Entering the Match: Drexel bested city rival La Salle, 2-0, as senior Fabio Assumpcao found the scorign foot of Malcolm LeBourne for both goals and redshirt freshman Tim Washam earned a shutout in his first career start in goal. The Dragons outshot La Salle 22-11 in the match. Drexel is ranked No. 10 in the South Atlantic region this week.
UMBC won its sixth straight to start the season with a 1-0 blanking of Towson. Rookie keeper Phil Saunders made five saves for the shutout. Striker Andrew Bulls knocked home his ninth goal of the season in the 39th minute and the Retrievers' defense made it hold up. The Retrievers received votes in the national coaches poll this week and are ranked No. 5 in the Northeast region.
Players to Watch: Rookie striker Malcolm LeBourne scored his first collegiate goals in the Dragons' last match. The fleet-footed freshman also had a third goal disallowed due to an offside call. With a number of injuries this season, LeBourne has had an opportunity to prove himself as a starter and thus far he has rewarded Head Coach Lew Meehl for the decision.
UMBC sophomore forward Andrew Bulls comes into Saturday's match as the leading scorer in NCAA men's soccer. Bulls has nine goals on the season and averages 4.0 points per match. Junior midfielder Levi Houapeu is the team's leader in assists with six helpers on the season.
Up Next: Drexel returns to Vidas Field for its final non-conference match of the season. The Dragons host Iona on Sept. 22 in a 4:00 match.
