Philadelphia - Drexel field hockey will challenge Temple at Buckley Field on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 7:00 p.m. The 11th-ranked Dragons have won their last 12 games at Buckley Field with their last loss coming in the 2008 home season opener. Drexel has also won its last seven games against Philadelphia opponents with the team's last defeat coming the most recent time Temple visited Buckley Field to face the Dragons on Sept. 19, 2007. The Dragons will enter this year's contest at 6-1 while the Owls are 3-5 on the season.
Drexel bounced back from its first loss of the season, at the hands of No. 6 UConn, to drop Fairfield, 5-1. Susan Ciufo scored both Drexel goals in the loss at UConn and added a goal and three assists against the Stags. The three assists tied a single-game school record set by Jen Peirce against Hofstra on Oct. 10, 1993. Ciufo currently leads the team in goals (9), assists (5) and points (23). Christina Mastropaolo ranks second on the team in the same categories with one fewer goal and assist. Anchoring the midfield has been 2008 Colonial Athletic Association First Teamers Carolina Gibernau and Kim Tunell. The duo has combined for six goals and six assists this season and has been a big reason why the Dragons are currently ranked 11th in the nation, the highest ranking in program history.
Temple features a balanced scoring attack with four players tied for the team lead in goals with two. Charise Young leads the squad with four assists while no Owl has more than six points in 2009. The Owls have been shutout in their last two contests with losses coming to Delaware and Albany. The two defeats snapped a two-game winning streak consisting of victories over Rutgers and Lafayette.
