Box Score
Philadelphia - Goalie Jenna Phillips made seven saves while three different Drexel players scored to propel the 11th-ranked Dragons to a 3-0 victory over Temple. The win was the Dragons' 13th straight at the friendly confines of Buckley Field and also the eighth consecutive victory over a Philadelphia opponent. The win moved Drexel's record to 7-1 on the season while Temple dipped to 3-6.
Drexel got on the board less than four minutes into the contest as Christina Mastropaolo scored on a penalty corner as she slammed a loose ball home at the left post. Thirteen minutes later, Drexel was awarded a penalty stroke and Sofia Sanguinetti whipped the ball past Sarah Dalrymple and into the net. The Owls failed to generate a shot until the final moments of the first half when Temple used its first penalty corner to test Phillips. Kristen Wanner rifled a shot directly off the stick stop that was turned away by Phillips' foot.
The second half saw the Owls generate many more offensive opportunies as the visitors earned eight penalty corners but were turned away each time by Phillips and the defense. The freshman goalie made six of her seven saves in the period as Wanner rifled multiple aerial shots that were deflected safely away by Phillips' blocker. Susan Ciufo put the game out of reach when she took a shot in front that was saved by Dalrymple but picked up the rebound and slipped the ball into the cage.
The Dragons outshot Temple, 19-9, and held a 12-10 edge in penalty corners. Dalrymple made nine saves for the Owls while Phillips registered her second career shutout and ran her record to 7-1.
Drexel opens Colonial Athletic Association action on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Hofstra at 1:00 p.m.
