Philadelphia – Former Drexel lacrosse standouts Bruce Bickford, Andrew Chapman and Adam Crystal have been named to the Colonial Athletic Association's Silver Anniversary team. As part of its 25th Anniversary celebration in 2009-10, the CAA is recognizing Silver Anniversary teams in 21 championship sports. The teams were selected by a panel of current and former coaches in the conference.
Bickford led the Dragons to a pair of CAA regular-season co-championships. A goalie from Providence, R.I., Bickford was honored as the CAA Player of the Year in 2008, the same year he was named an Honorable Mention All-American in 2008. Bickford was a First-Team All-CAA selection in both 2007 and 2008 and led the Dragons to a school-record 13 wins as a senior. He finished that year ranked fourth in the nation in save percentage (.629) and was fifth nationally in goals against average.
Chapman, a native of Toronto, Ontario, was a First Team All-CAA selection in both of his years playing for the Dragons. He became the first Drexel player in 14 years to score at least 40 goals when he scored 42 times in 2007. Chapman was the leading goal scorer in each of the seasons the Dragons tied for the CAA regular-season title. He led the CAA in goals and points (53) in 2007 and ranked second in the league in goals with 39 in 2008. Chapman's 81 career goals in only two season ranks him 11th all-time at Drexel.
Crystal, who played at Baldwin High School in Baldwin, N.Y., was the CAA Defensive Player of the Year in 2007, the only Dragon ever to receive that award. He was named an Honorable Mention All-American in 2007. Crystal was a three-time All-CAA selection, including a First-Team pick in 2006 and 2007. He was the first Dragon to receive All-American accolades in 29 years and is the only lacrosse player ever at Drexel to be named an All-American and a USILA Scholar All-American.
In addition, current Drexel Assistant Coach Chris Collins is also on the team. Collins was an honorable mention All-America at goalkeeper for Delaware in 2005. He was a Second Team All-CAA selection twice and owns the Delaware single-season record for goals against average (7.56) and ranks second in career goals against average (8.63).
Joining the three former Dragons and Collins on the CAA's Silver Anniversary team for men's lacrosse are: Matt Alrich (Delaware), Jay Card (Hofstra), Joe Canuso (Villanova), Andrew Chapman (Drexel), Casey Cittadino (Towson), Danny Cocchi (Towson), Dan Deckelbaum (Delaware), Ben DeFelice (Towson), Curtis Dickson (Delaware), Jonathan Engelke (Towson), Jordan Hall (Delaware), Cam Howard (Delaware), Athan Iannucci (Hofstra), Tom Kessler (Hofstra), Brian Marks (Villanova), Brett Moyer (Hofstra), Nicky Polanco (Hofstra), Alex Smith (Delaware), Reed Sothoron (Towson), Chris Unterstein (Hofstra), Kevin Unterstein (Hofstra) and Jon Urbana (Villanova).
