Drexel Men's Lacrosse to Play Stony Brook in CAA Semifinals on Thursday

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's lacrosse team is set to take on the Stony Brook Seawolves in the CAA Semifinals on Thursday evening. The Dragons, seeded second, and Seawolves, seeded third, will face at Johnny Unitas Stadium on the campus of Towson at 7 p.m. Action can be seen on FloCollege.
About Stony Brook
The Seawolves enter the postseason with an 8-5 record and have a 4-2 record in CAA play. The Long Island team finished the regular season with a 28-7 victory over the Hampton Pirates, winning four of the teams last five games. Their lone loss in that stretch came against the Dragons on its own turf on April 18, 17-13. The Seawolves are led by Collin Williamson and Justin Bonnacci, who total over 30% of the Seawolves point total. Williamson has scored32 goals and tallied 15 assists, equaling 47 points, while Bonacci has scored 25 goals and dished 15 assists for 40 points.
Stony Brook's primary face off specialist, Robbie Smith, has a 55% win ratio, while the Seawolves' keeper, Tommy Wilk has all the decisions for the team and has an 11.11 Goals Against Average.
About Drexel
Drexel's 2026 squad excels on many facets of the game. The Dragons have two players well north of 40 points and even has one player past the 50 point mark for the first time since 2019. Witt Crawford has scored a team-high 34 points and dished 17 assists to total 51 points, while Alec Tulio is near with 32 goals and 13 assists at 45 points. The duo are joined by four others who have passed the 20-point threshold.
Trent Layton has taken a majority of face offs for Drexel this season and has finished the regular season with an impressive .560 winning percentage, third best in the conference. In the cage for Drexel is Brendan Donnelly who has helped Drexel with 144 saves and a 10.09 Goals Against Average.
The Series
Stony Brook and Drexel's history is short and brief. Thursday night's meeting will be just the sixth time the two teams meet; however, it will be the second time the two teams meet in the CAA Championships. Both met in the semifinals of the 2023 tournament, hosted in Newark, Del. Stony Brook was victorious, 13-10. The Dragons and Seawolves met in Drexel's regular season conference finale two weeks ago and Drexel was victorious, 17-13. It was Drexel's third victory in the series, breaking a 2-2 tie between the two programs.
