Drexel's Season Ends in CAA Semifinals; Fall to Stony Brook, 9-7

TOWSON, Md. – The Drexel men's lacrosse team saw its season come to an end on Thursday evening in the CAA Semifinals, falling to the Stony Brook Seawolves, 9-7. The Dragons end their season with a 9-6 record overall.
Witt Crawford scored a hat trick for the Dragons and tallied an assist. His three goals tonight ties him for third in Drexel's CAA Tournament record book with 11 goals for his career.
Both teams played stellar defense to open the game. However, it was the Dragons who finally broke open the scoring. Teddy Luthy scored his first goal of the game with 2:40 left in the first quarter. Stony Brook responded with just 50 seconds remaining to even the score at one.
Stony Brook was first to strike in the second quarter with 11:57 remaining in the frame. Drexel only needed two minutes to even the score at two, as Crawford scored his first of the game off a Luthy pass.
The Seawolves launched into a two-goal run, leading to a Drexel timeout with 4:46 remaining. Out of the timeout, Drexel was able to pull within one. Owen Knight buried a shot to the bottom right of the cage. Hooley was credited with an assist from behind the crease.
The Dragons tied the game with 10 seconds remaining. Jack Joyner scored his first of the game off a Luthy setup. At the half, the two teams were tied at four.
While Stony Brook scored the first goal of the half, Drexel responded with a pair of goals by Crawford to take the lead, 6-5. Crawford's first was scored with 12 minutes remaining in an extra-man opportunity, while his second goal was scored unassisted with 10:13 remaining.
The Seawolves evened the game two minutes later with a goal by Sean Carlo and assisted by Owen Donnellan. The Seawolves then scored once more to take a lead. Drexel followd up with a tally with 1:38 remaining to end the third straight quarter tied. Luke Tomak scored an extra-man goal on an assist.
Stony Brook opened the scoring in the fourth quarter with its eighth goal of the game. Both teams then fell off, with neither squad scoring until there was 2:20 left in the quarter. The Seahawks extended their lead to two with a goal at 2:20. Stony Brook was able to hold off the Drexel offense to end the game, 9-7.
