Philadelphia - Drexel swept the breaststroke events but Rider outscored the Dragons overall to take a 198-96 victory in a non-conference meet at Drexel Pool. Jessica Csakai, Amanda Brown and Malin Wiberg each earned first-place finishes for the Dragons. Diver Megan Halicek picked up a pair of second-place finishes.
Csakai picked up an early victory for the Dragons as the junior triumphed in the first individual event of the meet with a 17:54.94 in the 1650 free. Rider's second-place time of 18:25.23 from Carly Misiewicz was more than 30 second behind Csakai's. The Broncs took the next two events but sophomores Amanda Brown and Christine Mankus finished first and second, respectively, in the 100 breast to give Drexel 13 team points. Brown touched the wall in 1:09.45 with Mankus recording a 1:10.22. Rider responded with a win in the 200 fly with Drexel freshman Lauren Faykes taking second at 2:09.02. The Broncs won the 50 and 100 free and the 200 back but their run was halted by Malin Wiberg's victory in the 200 breast. Brown took second in the event just behind Wiberg as the two were timed at 2:30.52 and 2:30.81. It would be the final first-place finish for the Dragons as Rider took the 500 free, 100 fly and 200 IM to seal the team victory.
In diving action, Amanda Burke of Rider took both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives as she exacted a bit of revenge on Drexel after previously coming in second place repeatedly to former All-American Kate Hynes in NCAA Diving Zone regional competitions. Halicek, a freshman, nearly toppled Burke in the 1-meter event but was outpointed, 289.35-267.53, to take second place. On the 3-meter board, Burke put on a stellar performance totaling 370.65 to Halicek's 236.48.
Drexel returns to action on Saturday as the Dragons host Providence at 2:00 p.m. Prior to the meet, the Dragons' seniors will be honored as part of Senior Day festivities.
