Philadelphia - Adrian Sabovici broke one of the oldest Drexel Pool records in his final appearance in his home venue as the senior led the Dragons to a 152-114 victory over Providence. Sabovici won the 500 and 1650 free with his time in the latter bringing a big Drexel crowd into an uproar. Along with Sabovici, Paul Bonnevie, Mert Karsiyakalilar and T.J. Southmayd were honored as part of Senior Day festivities.
After Drexel took the meet-opening 200 medley relay, Sabovici posted his record-breaking performance in the 1650 free. Sabovici registered Drexel Pool's first sub-16-minute time as he recorded a 15:58.01 to break a 24-year-old school record set by a Lehigh swimmer. Buoyed by Sabovici's performance, the Dragons cruised to victory as Jesse McGrath followed with a win in the 200 free with a time of 1:46.66 while freshman Doga Celik took the next event, the 100 back, in 52.34 with classmate Dan Zalkind claiming second at 55.55. Sherif Madkour followed with a victory by more than six seconds in the 100 breast with a time of 59.00. Yavuz won the 200 fly at 1:58.16 before Southmayd became the second senior to win an individual event with his win in the 50 free at 21.81.
The Friars won their first event as they took the 100 free with Mathew Card registering a winning time of 49.25 with Bonnevie registering the Dragons' top time of 51.32. Southmayd earned his second win of the day with a triumph in the 1:57.23 in the 200 back just before Madkour took his second with a win by nearly 15 seconds in the 200 breast at 2:07.52.
