The Drexel men's basketball team heads to Boston to face Northeastern on Wednesday night. The Dragons enter the game with a two-game winning streak and a 6-3 mark in CAA play. The Huskies are tied for the top spot in the CAA with an 8-1 mark, have a 11-game winning streak and haven't lost since December 23.
Drexel leads the all-time series with Northeastern, 31-14. The teams met earlier this season in Philadelphia, where the Dragons prevailed, 49-47. Samme Givens scored a 16 points off the bench to lead Drexel. The Huskies had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but Matt Janning's jumper came up short. The Dragons held the lead for virtually the entire second half, but could not put the Huskies away. The lead got to as big as six points with 9:15 to play when Derrick Thomas scored on a fast break lay-up. Northeastern answered with four straight free throws and the game remained close the rest of the game.
Drexel had a five-point lead with 1:42 to play, but Janning's three-pointer cut it to two. Evan Neisler made a pair of free throws with a minute left to give Drexel a 49-45 lead. Janning was fouled 11 seconds later and made both as NU trimmed the lead to two points. Drexel had a chance to ice it but turned it over which gave Northeastern the ball with 17 seconds to play. The Huskies called timeout and then had two shots in the last five seconds that both bounced off the rim.
The teams have split four games in Boston since NU joined the CAA. The Huskies have won three of the last five in the series.
