
Men's Basketball Downs First Place Northeastern in Boston, 61-48

Boston, Mass. – Chris Fouch and Jamie Harris each scored 13 points as Drexel knocked off first-place Northeastern in Boston, 61-48. It was the second-straight year the Dragons defeated the Huskies on the road while Northeastern was atop the Colonial Athletic Association standings. The win gave the Dragons a season sweep against NU and snapped the Huskies 11-game winning streak.
Northeastern (13-8, 8-2) opened the scoring on a Manny Adako bank shot to start the game, but Drexel responded with a 14-0 run to take a 12-point lead. The Dragons (12-10, 7-3)shot 50 percent from the floor, knocked down four three-pointers and had a balanced scoring attack. Chris Fouch had eight points at the break to lead the team at the half. Derrick Thomas added six points, including a three-pointer in the final minute to close the scoring, to give the Dragons a 12-point cushion at intermission, 31-19. The Huskies were just 8-for-27 from the floor in the first half and were outrebounded by the Dragons in the opening period, 20-13.
In the second half, Northeastern came out strong and trimmed the lead to three points at the 14:03 mark when Nkem Ojougboh made a pair of free throws. Drexel answered by scoring on jump shots on its next two trips by Harris and Spencer to increase the lead to seven. Northeastern made one last run to cut it to six points with 2:02 to play, but the Dragons made eight of their last 10 free throws to win for the third time in a row.
Fouch nailed three three-pointers in the game and also grabbed five rebounds. Samme Givens grabbed 10 boards for the Dragons. It was the fifth time in the last six games he has had at least 10 rebounds. Leon Spencer came off the bench to score nine points, grab nine rebounds and block two shots. The Dragons outrebounded the Huskies, 46-30.
Ojougboh led the Huskies with 14 points and five blocks. Chaisson Allen added 13, but was just 4-for-13 from the field. Matt Janning added 10 points but was also 4-for-13 from the floor as the Dragons held NU to just 31 percent shooting in the game.
Drexel visits William & Mary on Saturday evening in Williamsburg, Va. The Dragons return to Philadelphia to begin a two-game home stand on Feb. 2 vs. Towson.
