
Dragons and William Mary Meet in Battle for First Place on Saturday

The Drexel men's basketball team, coming off a thrilling 75-72 win against defending CAA champion VCU, hosts William & Mary on Saturday in a first-place battle in the DAC at 4 p.m. Both the Dragons and the Tribe are 3-1 and tied with three other teams for first place.
Gerald Colds and Chris Fouch each had 19 points as Drexel defeated VCU, 75-72 in the Daskalakis Athletic Center on Wednesday. The Dragons held off a late VCU rally to snap a six-game losing streak to the defending CAA champions. Colds made two free throws with 13 seconds left to give Drexel a three-point lead. VCU had one last chance, but a three-pointer by Joey Rodriguez bounced off the rim as Drexel improved to 3-1 in the CAA and 8-8 overall.
Jamie Harris has been one of the top player in the CAA in the early going. He had 32 points at Georgia State and now has five games with at least 20 points. Harris is also shooting .797 from the line and leads the team in assists. Colds is now averaging 10 points and has 35 points in his last two games. Chris Fouch was 5-for-7 from long range against VCU and has a team-best 31 treys. He is shooting .378 from deep and is third on the team with 9.2 points. Samme Givens leads the club with 7.2 rebounds per game and is shooting .538 from the floor.
William & Mary has had an outstanding start under Head Coach Tony Shaver. The Tribe is 11-3 overall and 3-1 in CAA play after defeating Delaware in overtime on Wednesday night. The Tribe trailed by seven with 32 seconds in overtime, but rallied for a dramatic 74-73 victory. The Tribe had three three-pointers in the final 32 seconds and won it when David Schneider hit a trey with just 2.8 seconds left.
The Tribe had more non-conference success than any team in the CAA. William & Mary posted wins at Maryland, at Wake Forest and vs. Richmond. Their only two non-league losses came at UConn (75-66) and at Harvard in triple overtime.
Schneider is averaging 17.1 points and already has 45 three-pointers. Quinn McDowell chips in with 14.4 points and Danny Sumner is averaging 11.4. Marcus Kitts is the team's top rebounder at 6.1 per game. As a team, the Tribe is shooting 39 percent from long range, averages more than 10 three-pointers per game and is shooting 72 percent from the free-throw line.
