Jack Callendar picked up a major decision win against Virginia Tech
Dragons Win Five of 10 Bouts But Fall to Virginia Tech, 24-20

Hampton, Va. – In its second match of the Virginia Duals, Drexel narrowly missed an upset victory over No. 24 Virginia Tech, 24-20. In a back-and-forth, the Hokies and Dragons split the 10 matches, but with a pin and two technical falls Virginia Tech escape with the win. The loss dropped Drexel to 4-6 on the season while the Hokies improved to 8-2.
After an opening bout at 125 pounds that saw Virginia Tech's No. 13 Jarrod Garnett win by technical fall, Drexel's Steve Mytych sparked the Dragons onto the scoreboard with a 6-1 decision over Erik Spjut in the 133-pound weight class. The win was Mytych's second of the day to move his season record to 15-6.
The Hokies battled back to with their second technical fall but Drexel senior Brett McCurdy kept the Dragons in the match with a 6-2 win over Brian Stephens at 149 pounds. The Hokies grabbed the next two match by decisions with only a forfeit halting the streak in the 174-pound match to bring the score to 20-12 in favor of Tech.
With a major decision win at 184 pounds, the Hokies clinched at least a tie and when Drexel's Jack Callender picked up a 11-3 major decision over Chris Penny at 197 pounds, the Hokies sealed the match. Kyle Frey added another four points to the Drexel tally with a 10-0 major decision over Tim Miller. It was Frey's ninth major decision victory on the season as he improved to 16-6 for the season.
The Dragons will face the Liberty Flames at 5:00 p.m. for their final action of the Virginia Duals.
