Towson, Md. - Freshman Ken Tribbett scored twice, including the game-winning goal, to lead Drexel (6-4-1, 2-2) to a 4-3 victory at Towson. Nate Baker and Nathan Page accounted for the other two goals and John Carroll recorded two assists as the Dragons handed Towson (7-2-1, 1-2-1) its second loss of the season.
"Towson's front players were a handful for us today, but credit to our guys for battling back," said Drexel Head Coach Doug Hess. "It was a critical three points for us in the league, however we need to tighten up a few things at the back before we head to Delaware this coming week."
Towson's leading scorer Marco Mangione gave his team a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute after beating a Drexel defender and keeper Pentti Pussinen on a shot to the far post.
Tigers' lead was short-lived, however, as the Dragons struck back in the 22nd minute when Nate Baker chipped keeper Angelo Vitterini with a shot on a breakaway set up by John Carroll. Just 43 seconds later Nathan Page put the Dragons' on top 2-1 with an uassisted goal, his team-leading fifth of the season.
Tribbett headed home the first of his two goals off a corner kick taken by Carroll in the 32nd minute. Drexel led 3-1 at halftime despite being outshot 8-7 by the Tigers. Vitterini stopped just one of Drexel's three on-target shots in the half.
In the second half Towson would quickly turn the tables by scoring twice in the first eight minutes out of the locker room to knot the match at 3-3.
Christian Hofer scored his first career goal off a header cued in by Joe O'Rourke that made it 3-2 game in the 48th minute. In the 54th minute Olakunle Banjo scored his seventh of the season on a shot from a tough angle that found the upper net to square the match.
The Dragons would not allow the match to slip from their grasp, however, as the defense tightened on the Tigers' strikers, enabling the offense to build toward a game-winner.
Drexel's midfield would come through with the decisive score just over three minutes after Towson completed its comeback. Nate Baker set up the goal by breaking down the right side of the field and sending a cross to the back post where the ball would find the foot of Brandon Zeller. Zeller cooly collected the service and square the ball to a charging Tribbett who blasted it through traffic for his second tally of the match.
The victory was the fourth for Drexel in its last five meetings with Towson and evens the Dragons' CAA record at 2-2 on the season. Drexel is on the road against Delaware on Wednesday before returning to Vidas Field to face Georgia State next Saturday.
