Philadelphia - With the CAA standings in a virtual log-jam and the season approaching its conclusion, Drexel men's soccer will play its final road match of the year at James Madison this Saturday. The Dragons (7-8-1, 3-6-0) are coming off a heartening 3-1 defeat against Northeastern on Wednesday, while the Dukes (8-5-2, 3-4-1) are flying high after a 2-0 triumph over Old Dominion in their last match. Drexel's loss on Wednesday drops the Dragons to 11th place in the conference, but the parity within the league this year has kept the team in contention for one of the four coveted spots in the conference tournament. Just six points separate the second place team from the last place team with two matches left in the season.
Dan Vignola provided Drexel's only score of the match with a header in the 89th minute as Northeastern rolled to a 3-1 victory. It was the third straight loss for the Dragons, and just their second defeat at home all season. During its current slide, Drexel has been outshot 62-21 and outscored 6-1, including two shutouts.
James Madison has lost three of its last four matches coming in to the weekend. The Dukes were victorious in their most recent match, however, a 2-0 win at Old Dominion. All-Conference striker CJ Sapong scored both goals for the Dukes. Sapong leads the CAA in goals (11), assists (8) and points (30) on the season.
The Dukes lead the all-time series against Drexel 5-1-2 and won last year's meeting 1-0 with CJ Sapong scoring the lone goal of the match. The Dragons' only win over the Dukes came during the 2007 season when Drexel went on to win the regular-season CAA championship.
Opening kick of Saturday's match is set for 7:00 p.m. in Harrisonburg, Va.
