Philadelphia - The 20th-ranked Drexel Field Hockey team will host No. 19 Old Dominion on Friday, Oct. 8 at 7:00 p.m. Both teams enter the game with perfect 3-0 conference marks and are riding five game-winning streaks. The winner of the showdown will sit alone atop the Colonial Athletic Association standings and hold the inside track in hosting the 2010 CAA Championships. Drexel will conclude the weekend on Sunday as William & Mary visits Buckley Field for a noon match-up.
The Dragons enter the weekend after two big road conference wins last weekend. Drexel outlasted VCU, 3-1, before dropping previous conference unbeaten James Madison, 3-2. Christina Mastropaolo has been named a CAA Player of the Week the last two weeks as she is riding a four-game goal-scoring streak while breaking Drexel's program records for career goals and points. Fellow senior Kim Tunell leads the team with seven assists while Susan Ciufo is ranked second on the team with six goals, four assists and 16 points.
Old Dominion has been impressive in its first three conference games. The Lady Monarchs have a combined score of 16-0 in wins over Northeastern, Delaware and Towson. With one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the nation, Old Dominion struggled early with losses to Penn State, Maryland, Virginia, Syracuse, Ohio State and North Carolina but also picked up wins over nationally ranked American, Duke and Boston University. Loran Hatch shared this week's CAA Player of the Week honor with Mastropaolo after the senior midfielder unleashed five goals in the team's last two games, including her first career hat trick against Delaware. Hatch has now notched a team-best 11 goals in 2010. The Lady Monarchs' defense has not allowed a goal in their last four games.
