Philadelphia – William & Mary scored the game's only goal in the 66th minute and defeated Drexel, 1-0, at Vidas Field. The win improved the Tribe's record to 7-5-1 and 3-2 in the CAA. Drexel dropped to 4-8-1 and
0-4-1 in league play.
William & Mary's Cortlyn Bristol got the game's first and only goal early in the second half. The Tribe sent a ball into the Drexel box that was headed out by a Dragon defender. Bristol picked the pass off, settled the ball and fired it into the lower left corner from 20 yards out. Drexel goalkeeper Nicole Sinclair made a diving effort, but it was just past her outstretched arms.
Drexel had a late chance to tie in the final seconds when Kim Chiarelli had a free kick. Her shot was saved by Grace Barnard as the Tribe went home with the hard-fought victory.
Neither team could get on the board in the first half. William & Mary outshot the Dragons, 7-3. Drexel had the ball in its attacking third for the majority of the half, but wasn't able to muster many scoring opportunities. The Tribe had a few scoring bids, but Sinclair made all three of her saves in the game during the first 45 minutes to keep William & Mary off the board.
William & Mary outshot Drexel, 16-9. Barnard recorded four saves in earning the shutout.
The Dragons continue their two-game homestand on Sunday afternoon against Old Dominion. Kick-off is set for 2 p.m.
