Box Score
Philadelphia – Drexel's offense exploded for a season-high five goals as the Dragons overpowered Old Dominion, 5-1, at Vidas Field. The five goals were the most goals the Dragons ever scored in a Colonial Athletic Association match as the Dragons defeated for the first time in school history.
Drexel's offense clicked early with three goals in the first half. Sam Greenfield got the Dragons on the board in the 26th minute. Drexel had a cross that was broken up by the ODU defense, but couldn't clear. Greenfield picked it up and fired it into the lower left corner off ODU keeper Brianna Alvarado's outstretched arm. The Monarchs answered less than two minutes later. Kate Kelly from Kelly Evans worked a give-and-go to perfection with Kelly evening the score at 1-1.
Drexel went ahead for good in the 31st minute. Jenna Lindsay fed the ball to Ashley Klun just above the box. Klun cut to the left and touched a pass to a streaking Sydney Douglas, who one-timed it over the top of keeper for her first goal of the season. The Drexel offense wasn't finished as it took just over three minutes for the Dragons to increase the lead to 3-1. This time it was Klun scoring the goal, her second of the year, on a header from 10 yards away. Jess Lowinger gave Klun a feed from right side from about 20 yards away, and Klun made the most of the opportunity.
The Dragons had three significant scoring chances in the opening 10 minutes of play. Courtney Wylie hit the post after a nice setup from the corner by Kim Chiarelli. Minutes later, Jess Lowinger fed a pass over the defense that Jenna Lindsay collected. She was met by ODU keeper Brianna Alvarado who was charging out of the net and foiled the scoring effort. Katie Duncan had a chance as well off a corner kick, but her shot went just wide.
Drexel added two more goals in the second half and held the Monarchs off the board in the second half. Lindsay scored her third of the season and 18th of her career in the 55th minute and Courtney Wylie closed the scoring with a shot off the crossbar that found the net. Lowinger picked up her second assist of the game on Lindsay's goal, while Speroni picked up the helper on Wylie's goal.
Drexel's Nicole Sinclair made eight saves in recording the win in goal. Brianna Alvarado had three saves before being replaced by Laura Bush. Bush also had three stops. The Dragons outshot ODU, 17-16, in the game.
The Dragons are off until the weekend after finishing their two-game homestand. Drexel will visit James Madison on Friday night and play at Mason on Sunday. The Dragons then return home for their final three matches of the season.
