Big Weekend on Schuylkill for Men's and Women's Crew in Frostbite and Braxton Regattas

Philadelphia – Drexel men's and women's crew gears up for a weekend of action on the Schuylkill River. Beginning on Saturday, Nov. 13 the Dragons will compete in the Frostbite Regatta followed by the Braxton Regatta on Sunday, Nov. 14. Drexel rowing is coming off an impressive finish at The Head of the Schuylkill Regatta where it earned the over-all team points title as race-day champions and the men's division trophy. The Dragons used four third-place finishes and two fourth-place finishes to claim their notable honors.
Drexel looks to defend its success this weekend as last season saw six out of seven boats cross the line with first-place finishes in the Frostbite Regatta followed the next day by five first-place finishes out of eight entrants at the Bill Braxton Regatta.
Drexel will launch 12 boats for both Regattas with nine events on Saturday beginning at 12:20 p.m. and 11 events on Sunday beginning at 9:35 a.m. The women's freshman/novice four kicks-off the weekend of rowing when coxswain Kerry Walsh, stroke Caitlin Buser, Leigh Ann Loughery, Adrianna Moreno and bow Jackie Bender take to the water at 9:35 a.m. racing out of lane two. The women's freshmen four then race Sunday from lane four at 10:25 a.m. this time with Dana Piccoli coxing the boat.
The next event at the Frostbite Regatta on Saturday is the men's freshman/novice four with coxswain Carolina Torres, stroke Ryan McSpedon, Ross Morris, Peter Rampulla and bow Matt Whitworth racing out of lane two at 12:44 p.m. On Sunday at the Bill Braxton Regatta, the men's freshman four again races out of lane two this time at 10:40 a.m. with coxswain Ashley Jordan, two seat Bob Mulholland and bow Brian Kissam.
In a 10:50 a.m. race on Sunday at the Bill Braxton Regatta, Drexel will launch a men's lightweight eight boat with coxswain Steve Matyas, stroke Liam O'Neill, Peter Schmidt, Andrew Pope Starnes, Kyle Fabel, Brennan Haydon, Jacob Sloan, John Luciani, and bow Adam Cordi racing out of lane six.
Action on Saturday then picks up with the eights as the men's junior varsity races out of lane one at 1:05 p.m. with coxswain Randall Lee, stroke Liam O'Neill, Nicholas Buyse, Dylan Siegfried, Michael Golden, Kevin Rorabaugh, Peter Schmidt, Michael Faust and bow Peter Eyrich. The next day, for the Braxton Regatta, they take to the water at 9:55 a.m. rowing out of lane two with the same line-up.
The women's freshman/novice eight will launch for a 1:40 p.m. race on Saturday at the Frostbite Regatta with coxswain Dana Piccoli, stroke Shannon O'Donnell, Colleen Delaney, Kayla Wroblesky, Sloane Spurlock, Emily Fluharty, Alyssa Leahy, Sarah Mackenzie and bow Elizabeth Daugherty and race out of lane three. Sunday, at the Braxton Regatta, coxswain Kerry Walsh will lead the women's freshman eight at 10:00 a.m. from lane four.
The men's freshman/novice eight will follow the women on Saturday when, at 2:15 p.m., coxswain Marc Smith, stroke Sebastian Ryan, Vanja Busic, Matt Ryan, Marcus DeMarici, Brent Basso, Steve Miner, John Pieper and bow Andrew Pope Starnes take to the water and race out of lane one. The Braxton Regatta will see the same line-up race out of lane two at 10:10 a.m. Sunday.
The four-man shells hit the river again in the Frostbite Regatta when the women's varsity four B with coxswain Mary Beth Geyer, stroke Jennifer Everett, Lillian Reed, Emily Barth and bow Victoria Bannister race out of lane two at 2:43 p.m. then again on Sunday for the Braxton Regatta from lane three at 11:10 a.m. The women's varsity four A will follow on Saturday as coxswain Caitlin Meehan, stroke Amanda Dargay, Brogan Piecara, Mairin McKinlay and bow Kathie Cheng race out of lane two at 2:57 p.m. On Sunday, for the Braxton Regatta, Drexel will launch the same line-up this time from lane one at 10:55 a.m.
The men's varsity four A will race Saturday at the Frostbite Regatta from lane one at 3:11 p.m. with coxswain Justin Malley, bow Gregg Francis, Martin Khait, Gregory Pierce and bow Ernesto Del Valle. On Sunday, with a short turnaround, coxswain Matthew Weston will join the line-up as they race out of lane four at 11:15 for the Braxton Regatta.
The men's varsity four B will follow on Saturday at 3:35 p.m. when coxswain Matthew Weston, stroke Paul Wisniowski, Scott Nordsiek, John Luciani III and bow Adam Cordi race from lane three. Coxswain Arlyn Kratz will join the boat to lead them on Sunday at the Braxton Regatta with an 11:20 a.m. race from lane five.
The varsity eight events will cap Saturday's race-day beginning at 3:53 p.m. while opening the Regatta on Sunday morning at 9:35 a.m. The women's varsity eight B with coxswain Alexandra Paulin, stroke Natasha Martines, Brooke Wertan, Colleen Owens, Elise Panacek, Jillian Skovran, Chloe Swansen, Asiya Mahumud and bow Brianna Simmers will race in the Frostbite Regatta at 3:53 p.m. from lane two then again Sunday morning at 9:50 a.m. from lane five in the Braxton Regatta.
The women's varsity eight A boat with coxswain Mary Catherine Khella, stroke Liz Bratton, Dana Haneman, Julia Jackson, Juliana DeMarici, Taylor Mondak, Alexa Antonioli, Casondra Clawson, and bow Mollie Cusack will launch for a race at 4:14 p.m. from lane three in the Frostbite Regatta on Saturday. Sunday will see the same line-up taking to the water for a 9:35 a.m. race also out of lane three.
The final event on Saturday will be the men's varsity eight with coxswain Steve Matyas, stroke Kurt Linton, Lorenzo Albala, Aleksander Radovic, William Masters, Brian Timlin, Jacob Sloan, Anthony Fitipaldi and bow Kyle Fabel as they race at 4:35 p.m. from lane two. The men then suit up again for a 9:45 a.m. race on Sunday out of lane four.
