Philadelphia – Drexel (1-1) used three pins and two technical falls to defeat Campbell University (0-1) at the DAC for its home-opener. The Dragons started strong and kept the momentum as they downed the Fighting Camels 36-13 on alumni, family and friends of Drexel Wrestling day.
Leading off the dual at 149 pounds was senior John McDermott's 16-0 technical fall over Brad Merriman. With the early 5-0 start Drexel continued to add to its lead as sophomore Charles Aungst pinned Campbell's Darien Peele 4:21 into the bout earning the Dragons six more team points. Picking up the third straight win for Drexel was sophomore Joe Booth at 165 pounds. Booth's 13-3 major decision over Joel Caudill kept the Dragons perfect through three matches as they held a 15-0 lead.
At 174 pounds senior Justin Wieller fought a close contest against Campbell's Peter Comis but Comis was able to come away with the 7-6 decision giving the Fighting Camels their first team points of the day.
