Women's Basketball Hits the Road For Clash With ACC Power Virginia Tonight

Charlottesville, Va. - With a perfect 5-0 record in hand, Drexel women's basketball will venture beyond the city limits of Philadelphia for the first time this season to take on the Virgnia Cavaliers (4-4). Tonight's 7:00 p.m. tip-off at the John Paul Jones Arena will be the first meeting between the two teams. Drexel is coming off a 64-47 win over Tulsa on Thursday led by a 20-point effort from Kamile Nacickaite and a career-best 18 points from Tyler Hale. The Dragons led by 20 at halftime and pushed it to as much as 23 points in the second half before suffering a seven-minute scoring drought and being forced to hold off a 20-4 Tulsa spurt. Drexel knocked down 12 straight free throws in the final two minutes to put down the threat and lock up its best start in program history. For a third straight game sophomore forward Taylor Wootton matched or set her career high with 13 points to go with a personal-best four assists. The Drexel defense, ranked third in the nation this week, held Tulsa to just 6-for-25 shooting in the first half.
Virginia is licking its wounds after a 74-46 loss to No. 6 Ohio State on Thursday in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Cavaliers have lost three of their last four games, all to nationally ranked team, also falling to Iowa and West Virginia. Their wins came against Hofstra, Longwood, TCU and Mount St. Mary's. After an injury sidelined starting guard China Crosby, Ariana Moorer and Chelsea Shine have stepped into roles as the primary scorers thus far this season. Moorer is putting in 12 points per game, while Shine is averaging nine and leading the team with 6.3 rebounds per game.
The Cavaliers continued to receive votes in the national top 25 poll this week. Virginia is one year removed from a 20-win season and an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament led by All-American Monica Wright. Wright was the first round draft pick of the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx this spring. She played in a handful of games with Drexel's Gabriela Marginean, who was Minnesota's third-round pick.
