Drexel Crew Racing Schedule and Line-Ups for Knecht Cup
Camden, N.J. - Drexel Crew will cross the bridge to New Jersey to race in Knecht Cup Regatta on the Cooper River on April 10-11. Director of Rowing Paul Savell will be sending 10 boats, six men and four women, to the water in search of finals berths and the Knecht Cup.
Drexel will open racing on Saturday at 7:42 a.m. with the men's pair as Liam O'Neill and Peter Schmidt look to qualify for the 2:41 p.m. grand final by finishing in the top two of their heat with the third and fourth place finishers moving to the 2:34 p.m. petite final. At 8:17 a.m. the Dragons' women's varsity four, in the Sandi Sheller boat with coxswain Caitlin Meehan, stroke Jill Skovran, Brianna Simmers, Brogan Piecara and bow Chloe Swansen, will race with the hopes of finishing in the top two in their heat to claim a spot in the semi-finals. In addition to the top two boats in each heat advancing, the next best six times will also earn the right to row in one of three semis beginning at 2:48 p.m. The men's varsity four will follow with an 8:31 a.m. start. The Tobey and Kim Oxholm will be occupied by coxswain Michelle Lehmann, stroke Michael Gartland, Peter Eyrich, Kevin Rorabaugh and bow Brennan Haydon. The top two finishers in each heat move to the grand finals while the third and fourth place finishers nab spots in the petite finals. The men's novice four will cap the Dragons' racing in fours with a 10:03 a.m. start in the Dawn Byers boat with coxswain Matt Weston, stroke Nick Jensen, Dylan Siegfried, Paul Wisniowski and bow Corey Barnes. The top two finishers take spots in the semi-finals while the top six times that do not finish in the top two also advance to the 4:05 p.m. semifinals.
At 11:09 a.m. Drexel's women's varsity eight will begin its run toward the Knecht Cup. Coxswain Cate Khella, stroke Candice Webb, Dana Haneman, Julia Jackson, Mallory Sykes, Juliana DeMarici, Emily Coyle, Casondra Clawson and bow Mary Kain will compete in hopes for a top three finish and a spot in the semis. The semifinals will begin at 5:08 p.m. At 11:37 a.m. the men's varsity eight will also look to book its place in the semis by finishing in the top three. Coxswain Randall Lee, stroke Aleksander Radovic, Kyle Fabel, Anthony Fittipaldi, Greg Pierce, Brian Timlin, Will Masters, Nick Buyse and bow Jacob Sloan would row in one of two semi-finals beginning at 5:29 p.m with a top three finish.
Second varsity eight racing will follow the varsity eights with the Drexel women in the Marlene Buckley boat with coxswain Alex Paulin, stroke Natasha Martines, Mollie Cusack, Alexa Antonioli, Jami Ruane, Colleen Owens, Samantha Cowan, Megan Bush and bow Asiya Mahmud. The Marlene Buckley will race at 12:05 p.m. with the top four finishers earning a spot in one of two semifinals starting at 4:40 p.m. The men will compete in the Annette Pennoni with coxswain Steve Matyas, stroke Filip Topalovic, Gregg Francis, Marty Khait, Chris Hillenbrand, Ernesto Del Valle, Lorenzo Albala, Michael Golden and bow Pat McGann racing in a 12:19 p.m. preliminary heat. The Dragons need a top three finish to qualify for the grand final.
The preliminary heats will conclude with novice eight racing with the women beginning at 12:54 p.m. The John A. Daskalakis boat with coxswain Mary Beth Geyer, stroke Amanda Dargay, Danielle Frigerio, Brogan Piecara, Lillian Reed, Leila Aboharb, Elise Panacek, Kathie Cheng and bow Mairin McKinlay will book a spot in the finals with a top top two finish or a time among the next best four to move to the semi-finals. The men's novice eight in the Vince Vidas boat with coxswain Justin Malley, stroke Kurt Linton, Jason Browne, Tim Drake, Rylan Treffinger, John Kile, Kam Palagi, Zach Antunes and bow Adam Conti will race looking for a top two finish or a time among the next best four to move to the semi-finals.
The finals will be held on Sunday with the third, petite and grand finals of the men's novice four starting at 7:50 a.m. The women's varsity four will also have a trio of finals starting at 9:10 a.m. The men's novice eight petite final will begin at 11:20 a.m. while the grand final will begin at 11:30 a.m. The women's novice eight will follow with the petite and grand final at 11:40 a.m. and 11:50 a.m., respectively. The grand final for the men's second varsity eight will start at 12:10 p.m. while the women's second varsity eight will have its petite final at 12:20 p.m. and the grand final at 12:30 p.m. Sunday culminates in the varsity eight finals with the third, petite and grand final of the men starting at 1:20 p.m. while the women's finals will begin at 1:50 p.m.
