Blacksburg, Va. - Drexel diver Megan Halicek placed third in the finals of the 1-meter competition of the USA Diving Senior Zone “A” Diving Championships to claim a spot at the 2010 AT&T National Diving Championships. Halicek, who will enter her sophomore season this fall at Drexel, competed against 33 other divers for just five spots at the national championships. The 2010 AT&T National Diving Championships will be held at Texas A&M University from Aug. 10-15.
Halicek had a solid showing during the preliminaries as she qualified for the finals by placing sixth. She improved her standing with a terrific finals performance that gave her a third-place finish and a trip to Texas A&M. Halicek placed higher than reigning Colonial Athletic Association Champion Kristen Meier of George Mason who had qualified for this year's NCAA Championships.
As a freshman, Halicek had a solid first season that included a CAA Rookie of the Week award on Nov. 17. She was thought to be a top contender for the conference titles on both boards before a perforated eardrum cut her freshman season short.
