Philadelphia - Drexel laid claim to its second straight Philadelphia Soccer Six Championship with a 3-1 victory on the road against Temple. Malcolm LeBourne, Andrew Goldberg and Nathan Page scored for the Dragons, who are now a perfect 3-0 to start the season. Evan Bransdorfer scored the Owls' (0-2-1) lone goal in the 34th minute of the match.
Nate Baker set up two of the Dragons' goals, including the opening tally by LeBourne in the 19th minute. Baker cued the ball to LeBourne from the right side where the sophomore striker placed his shot to the left of keeper Bret Mollon to give Drexel a 1-0 lead.
Bransdorfer squared the match for Temple when he headed home the rebound off a shot that caromed off the cross bar in the 34th minute.
Temple pelted the Dragons with 12 shots in the first half and outshot Drexel 24-16 in the match. The Owls also outcornered Drexel 8-2. Dragons' keeper Tim Washam made six stops in goal, allowing only Bransdorfer's goal, which was the first yielded by the Dragons all season.
Goldberg broke the 1-1 tie in the 66th minute when he knocked home a rebound on the right side to put Drexel on top 2-1. The reigning CAA Co-Player of the Week has now scored in all three of Drexel's matches this season, he leads the team with four goals on the year.
In the 83rd minute Page gave Drexel an insurance goal when he knocked home a cross from Baker at close range to put the Dragons on top 3-1. In goal, Washam made five saves in the second half to make the lead hold up for the city-championship-clinching victory.
Drexel's repeat Soccer Six Championship is the first time since 2002-03 that a team has repeated as champions, when the Dragons also won it in consecutive years.
The Dragons are back in action on Monday, Sept. 13 when they host NJIT at 7:00 p.m. under the lights at Vidas Field.
