Philadelphia - After sewing up its second straight Philadelphia Soccer Six Championship over the weekend, Drexel men's soccer will try to continue its solid play at Vidas Field when the Dragons host the New Jersey Institute of Technology tonight at 7:00 p.m. Fans can follow the match online via live stats by clicking here.
The Dragons, who enter the week ranked No. 5 in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region coaches poll, return to Vidas Field to play their second game in a three day span which began with a 3-1 win over the Temple Owls on Saturday. Drexel is undefeated at home this season and has not yielded a goal on its home turf.
Entering today's match, Drexel striker Andrew Goldberg, this week's Soccer Six Co-Player of the Week, found the netting once again as he tallied for his second game-winning goal and team leading fourth score on the season. Malcome LeBourne and Nathan Page also converted for the Dragons while Nate Baker directed both goals with the assists. The Owls outshot the Dragons 24-16 on the day but junior keeper Tim Washam shut down six attempts on net on the way to preserving the win for Drexel and his second of the year.
NJIT is compiling its best thee-match start to the season since 2004, moving to 2-1 after taking down the University of Albany on the road in a 4-1 offensive performance. Sophomore Jack McVey scored twice for the Highlanders while freshman Nils Warfving added to his team leading six points with his third mark of the year.
Today's contest will be the first between the Dragons and the Highlanders. Drexel looks to extend its win streak before hitting the road for a tournament in Fort Myers, Fla. which will pit the Dragons against Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday and South Florida on Saturday.
Parking and admission are free at the Vidas Athletic Complex on 43rd and Powelton Ave. in Philadelphia.
