Drexel scored two second half goals to break a scoreless tie and defeated La Salle, 2-0, at the Blue Hen Classic in Newark, Del. Junior Jenna Lindsay scored a goal and had an assist and Victoria Troccoli and Nicole Sinclair combined on a shutout in goal.
Lindsay got the Dragons (4-4) on the board in the 52nd minute. She cut past the Explorer defender and fired the ball into the right corner for her second goal of the season. That would be all the scoring until late in the contest. In the game's 81st minute, Lindsay set up sophomore Alex Vazquez, who poked the ball past
La Salle's (5-3-1) Gabby Pakhtigian to give the Dragons the two-goal cushion. It was the second goal of the season for Vazquez.
The Dragons defense played well and posted its third shutout of the year. La Salle outshot Drexel, 12-9.
Troccoli, a first-year player from Troy, Mich., came up with three stops in the first half as the teams went to intermission scoreless. Sinclairi, a senior from Philadelphia, made a pair of saves in the second half as the Dragons evened their record at 4-4.
Lindsay, Biz Matta and Sam Greenfield were named to the All-Tournament team.
Drexel is off until Friday when it travels to Atlanta to face Georgia State in the team's first Colonial Association match.
