Drexel's Madkour Posts Impressive Results at African Swimming Championships

Casablanca, Morocco - Drexel's Sherif Madkour competed in the 100 and 200 meter breast events at the 10th African Swimming Championships. Madkour, a native of Cairo, Egypt, took third in the 200 and fifth in the 100. Madkour is entering his senior season at Drexel where he has been a stand-out on the swimming team since his arrival.
Madkour posted a time of 2:19.25 in the 200 breast as he finished behind only William Diering of South Africa and Sofiane Daid of Algeria. Diering posted a time of 2:15.65 as he established a new championships record. Madkour just edged out Tallel M'Rabet at the wall to earn the bronze medal by 0.57 seconds. In the 100, Madkour's time of 1:05.41 was just off the pace of medal-winning times as he recorded a 1:05.41.
Last season, Madkour earned All-Colonial Athletic Association honors with his second-place finish in the 200 breast. It was Madkour's second finals berth in a breast event as he had previously taken eighth in the 100 breast.
Madkour and the Dragons open the season on Oct. 20 as they host Widener at Drexel Pool.
