No. 16 Drexel to Open Conference Season Against Hofstra

Philadelphia - Drexel Field Hockey will begin its Colonial Athletic Association season schedule as Hofstra visits Buckley Field on Friday, Sept. 24 at 4:00 p.m. The 16th-ranked Dragons (4-3) are coming off of a 3-1 victory at Temple on Wednesday while Hofstra (5-3) has won its last three games while averaging five goals per game during the winning streak.
Drexel's Ashley Santee has emerged as a scoring threat in 2010. The junior forward leads the team with four goals and nine points this season. Santee scored a pair of goals to help the Dragons get past the Owls. Senior forward Jen Cairone added the game-winning goal and an assist in the game. Classmates Susan Ciufo and Christina Mastropaolo are former All-Americans who also highlight the Drexel frontline. Ciufo has seven points thus far this season while Mastropaolo has contributed six.
Hofstra has been on a tear of late winning its last three games. After a 4-3 overtime triumph over Rider, the Pride reeled off a 5-0 victory over Fairfield before trouncing Siena, 6-0. Hofstra is averaging five goals per game at home but only 0.67 goals per game in contests played away from Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium. Genna Kovar leads the conference with nine goals and 22 points this season while Krizia Layne is also among the league leaders with seven goals and 16 points. Amanda Heyde has started every game in cage for the Pride and has a 1.77 goals against average this season.
