Dragons Wrap Up Home Stretch this Weekend

Philadelphia – The Drexel men's and women's swimming and diving teams gear up for an action-packed weekend. The Dragons host Army on Friday at noon before taking on Shippensburg and Bloomsburg on Saturday, January 22nd in the Drexel Pool at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. This weekend marks the end of the three-week home stretch for the Dragons.
Both the Drexel men's and women's swimming and diving teams enter the meet with a 3-7 overall record. The Army men improved their record to 6-4 after sweeping Lehigh and Bucknell last weekend. The Black Knight women are 3-7 overall and fell short against both Patriot League rivals.
Drexel's Ian Jevnick continues to dominate on the boards. The senior standout was named the Colonial Athletic Association's co-Diver of the Week for the second consecutive week, and has now logged his fourth league Diver of the Week honors this season. Last weekend, Jevnick broke the pool record of 361 points against Delaware. Teammate Megan Halicek has also placed first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events throughout the Dragon's home stretch.
Seniors Armagan Yavuz and Matthew Tannenbaum had stellar performances last weekend against Delaware. Yavuz had two first place finishes, including a new career best in the 100-yard butterfly. The Cherry Hill, N.J. native, Tannenbaum, placed second in the in the 50-yard freestyle event. Drexel's Victoria Mayer also made strides against Delaware and recorded a new person best in the 200 yard butterfly.
In their last meeting, Shippensburg topped the Dragons 108-97. Shippensburg women's team is 2-3 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The Raiders picked up an eighth and ninth place finish at the Zippy Invitational. The men improved to 4-1 overall record after defeating Edinboro.
Last season, Drexel defeated Bloomsburg 158-104. Bloomsburg's men's team currently holds a 2-3 overall record. The Huskies women's team is 3-4 overall and will be competing against East Stroudsburg Friday night.
