Philadelphia – Frantz Massenat scored a career-high 16 points and handed out seven assists as Drexel defeated Delaware at the DAC, 68-55. Samme Givens and Daryl McCoy each had double-double as the Dragons posted their 10th win of the season.
Drexel finished the first half with a 19-4 run and held Delaware (7-7, 2-2) to just two points and one field goal over the final 6:34 of the half. Chris Fouch, who was held to just nine points in the game, had six points during the stretch. Drexel led by a 36-17 score at the half after holding the Hens to just seven baskets and 26 percent shooting in the early going.
Delaware started strong in the second half, outscoring Drexel 15-4 in the opening minutes to cut the lead to 40-33. The Blue Hens were unable to get closer than six points the rest of the way. Massenat had 12 of his 16 points in the second half. The freshman was 5-for-7 from both the floor and the line. McCoy and Givens gave the Dragons' solid production up front. McCoy scored 14 points on 6-for-9 shooting and grabbed 15 rebounds for his second double-double. Givens, who was limited to 23 minutes due to foul trouble, was still able to score 12 points and pick up 14 rebounds. It was the sixth time this year he recorded a double-double.
Drexel committed just four turnovers in the game, matching the school record for the fifth time, and had 15 assists. Gerald Colds had five assists off the bench.
Jawan Carter scored a game-high 24 points for the Blue Hens and sank three three-pointers. Devon Saddler added 12 points, while Jamelle Hagins led the team with eight rebounds.
Drexel hosts CAA preseason favorite Old Dominion on Thursday night at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The game will be televised on ESPNU beginning at 7 p.m. ODU is 12-3 overall and 3-1 in the CAA.
