ATLANTA - Coming off back-to-back victories at home, the Drexel men's soccer team returns to the road on Sunday as they visit Georgia State at 3:00 p.m. with a chance to firmly establish themselves as contenders in a tightly-packed Colonial Athletic Association. The Dragons, who are 2-2-1 in the league after defeating Towson and Delaware in their past two games, currently sit in seventh place, just a half game back of a spot in the six-team CAA Tournament.
Georgia State is one of the teams the Dragons will be competing against at the top of the league. The Panthers are 3-2 in CAA action thus far, currently fifth in the league. Like the Dragons, the Panthers have done it with defense, recording seven shutouts already this season and allowing just seven total goals over 13 games.
Drexel will try to keep its positive momentum going after a dramatic 2-1 victory over Delaware in double overtime on Wednesday night. Ken Tribbett poked in the game-winner in the 107th minute, with sophomore classmate Pentti Pussinen performing stellarly in goal, including a save off a penalty kick near the end of regulation.
The Dragons defeated Georgia State 2-1 in their last meeting, at VIdas Field last season. They last won in Atlanta in 2007, when they edged the Panthers 1-0. Drexel holds a 4-2-0 advantage in this young conference rivalry.
