Dragons Show Strong Performance at Terrier Invitational

Boston, Mass. – Men's and women's swimming totaled 13 top-five finishes, including three first-place finishes for the men at the Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University this weekend. The women set new school records in three events over the course of the meet. These performances lead the men to finish in fifth place, while the women placed seventh overall.
Freshman Alex Galinskiy took first in the 200 yard free with a time of 1:39.64. Sophomore Gregory Oprendek also secured a first place win in the 100 yard breaststroke event with at time of 57.16 while freshman Andrew Reimon won the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:03.91.
Sophomore Alex Bagshaw added a second place finish in the 50 free event, while the men's 200 medley relay squad also finished in second place.
For the women, junior Lauren Faykes had a strong outing, finishing second in the 500 yard free in 4:57.07. In the 100 yard butterfly event, Faykes touched the wall in 56.88 to secure a fourth place finish, breaking the current school record for that event. Senior teammate Devina Tyagi also broke a school record in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 56.88. Along with this, the women's 200 medley relay squad finished in 1:46.38 to break a third school record during this competition.
Next up, Drexel Swimming will kick off the new year at Delaware on January 14, 2012. Drexel diving returns to action December 1-3, when they will compete at the Princeton Diving Invitational in Princeton, N.J.
