Las Vegas, Nev. – Day one in the books at the 30th Annual Cliff Keen Invitational and Drexel's Joseph Booth remains unbeaten at 165 pounds and will wrestle in the semi-finals tomorrow morning starting at 10:00 a.m. PST. Senior Kyle Frey, heavy weight, and sophomore Brandon Palik, 197 pounds, are also still alive as they will battle for a chance at third tomorrow.
Booth, seeded fifth, started things off with his fourth major decision of the season over Standford's Brent Baumbach, 10-2. Booth's next match was a 9-3 win over West Virginia's Kyle Eason followed by a sudden victory take down of fourth-seed and No. 16 Ben Jordan of Wisconsin. Palik, seeded eight, picked up a 10-4 win over Bryan Chamberlain of Utah Valley University followed by a 13-2 major decision over Simus Norkus of Western Wyoming College. Palik's only loss was at the hands of first-seed and No. 4 Chris Honeycutt of Edinboro, 15-4. Frey continued in his winning ways with a 5-0 blanking of Henry Chirino of Northern Colorado before edging Brandon Williamson of West Virginia 4-3. Frey narrowly missed out on the semi-finals when he dropped a 3-2 match to Levi Cooper of Arizona State, tournament one-seed and ranked sixth nationally.
