The Dragons cut the lead to seven points on two occasions, but that was as close as they could get, as their shots would just not fall in the second half. Drexel managed to shoot just 32 percent in the second half and was 0-for-6 from long range during that time.
Drexel jumped out to a big early lead and led 23-7 with just nine minutes remaining in the first half as the Dukes managed only two field goals in the first 11 minutes of the game. James Madison countered with a 17-5 run and trailed by only three points at the half, 32-29. The Dragons didn't help their own cause late in the half as they missed the front end of three one-and-one opportunities.
JMU held the Dragons to just 37 percent from the floor in the game. Drexel was just 1-for-12 from deep and 9-for-18 from the line. Givens and Dartaye Ruffin were the only Dragons to score in double figures. Ruffin came off the bench to score 10 points. Chris Fouch, Drexel's leading scorer, struggled from the floor all night and finished with just two points.
Bowles finished with his CAA-leading 13th double-double of the year. Humpty Hitchens scored 14 points and made three three-pointers. Devon Moore made all six of his free throws and added 12 points and six assists. The Dukes shot 46 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Dragons, 41-36. It was just the fifth time all year Drexel has been outrebounded.
Drexel concludes its two-game homestand on Saturday afternoon against William & Mary. The Dragons and Tribe tip-off at 4 p.m.
