Lawrenceville, N.J. – Drexel was downed by CAA opponent Rider 20-12 in the Dragons' last conference dual match of the season. Drexel won four out of 10 bouts in the losing effort as head coach Jack Childs met Rider coach Gary Taylor for the last time in their 32 year history across the mat from each other. Sophomore Joe Booth is now a perfect 6-0 in the CAA at 165 with a .75 overall win percentage. Heavy weight and fellow sophomore Jack Callender, reigning CAA Co-Wrestler of the Week, picked up is fourth consecutive win, 5th in the CAA.
Sophomore Shawn Fausey, 184 pounds, and redshirt freshman Brandon Palik, 197 pounds, each picked up a win on the night as Drexel earned the last three individual victories but fell short in the end. Fausey narrowly edged Rider's James Brundage 5-4 to give the Dragons their second bout. Palik followed with a close 3-1 victory in overtime against the Broncs' Joe Ferber to slowly cut away at Drexel's deficit.
Callender earned his 10th overall win as he topped Rider's Evan Craig in another close bout, 4-1. Callender is now 5-1 in the CAA. Booth, sitting third in the conference entering the match, was up against second ranked Jim Resnick of Rider in perhaps the evenings most anticipated bout. Booth earned the final decision 5-0 to defeat Resnick and remain unbeaten in the CAA. With the win Booth picked up his team-leading 21st win, one off his career high.
Childs visited Rider for the last time in his tenure as coach, but the match-ups were a preview of what is to come in the CAA Championships as well as the NCAA Championships held in Philadelphia's very own Wells Fargo Center March 17-19.
