Men's Soccer Grabs First Victory of the Season, 2-0 Over Temple

BOX SCORE
PHILADELPHIA - The Drexel men's soccer team got exactly what it needed on Wednesday night, breaking a scoreless stretch that dated back more than four games when Malcolm LeBourne scored midway through the first half. The Dragons would add another in the second half as they shut out their Philadelphia Soccer Six rival Temple, 2-0.
Pentti Pussinen stopped all seven shots that came his way as the Dragons improved to 1-6-1 on the season. They also earned a split in the Soccer Six, handing Temple a loss in its PS6 opener in the process.
After controlling play for much of the first half, the Dragons were still scoreless more than 20 minutes in. Then on a breakaway, Mark Donohue streaked downfield to the left of goalkeeper Bobby Rosato and laced a perfect centering pass across to Malcolm LeBourne. LeBourne wasted no time, poking the ball past Rosato and giving the Dragons a 1-0 lead in the game's 25th minute. LeBourne kept running straight for the sideline, arms outstretched, as he was mobbed by his teammates and the bench exploded in excitement.
Drexel continued to keep the pressure on, rarely letting Temple venture deep into its territory. In the second half, the game was played largely in the middle, with neither team firmly establishing an advantage until Ridge Robinson was inserted into play in the 80th minute as the Dragons were setting up for a corner kick. Manuel Cazares took the ball out and placed it perfectly in to Robinson, who speared it home with a vicious header, giving the Dragons a 2-0 cushion.
The victory came in Drexel's final non-conference game of the season. They will travel to UNC-Wilmington on Saturday evening to continue Colonial Athletic Association play against the Seahawks at 7:00 p.m. The Dragons will be home again a week later on October 8 as they host Towson at Vidas Field at 4:00 p.m.
