CORAOPOLIS, Pa. – The Drexel men's soccer team kicked off its season Thursday afternoon with a 2-1 win on the road over the Robert Morris Colonials.

Victor Moreck and Brian Salvino both scored.
Fifth-year student Raphael Bartell recorded a save and an assist.
The Dragons outshot the Colonials 12-4 and kicked 13 corners to Robert Morris's 4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams started the game aggressively. A second-minute shot on goal gave Bartell his first save of the year. Tiago Lima-Bittencourt responded in the fourth minute with a shot that went high right. The teams traded possession before two 10th-minute shots by the Dragons created offensive opportunities. Lima-Bittencourt kept the pressure on with a shot on goal at 20:33.
The Colonials struck first with a penalty kick goal in the 32nd minute. Victor Morek responded with a penalty goal of his own at 39:26 followed by another shot on goal at 40:55. Drexel generated additional opportunities with three corner kicks before the halftime whistle left things tied at one.
The Dragons had eight corner kicks as opposed to only one for the Colonials in the first half. Drexel also generated more offensive chances with three shots on goal.
Starting the second half with the ball, DU had two shots in the first five minutes of the second frame. Robert Morris generated some pressure in the 56th minute with a pair of corner kicks and a shot, but the Dragon's defense held them in check. The two teams continued to go back and forth until a 71st-minute corner led to a Leon Park shot that went high.
At 74:15, Drexel was awarded a second penalty kick, this time taken by Lima-Bittencourt, but the shot was saved. The Colonials responded with a corner kick, but the Dragons prevented them from scoring. The teams went back and forth until the 87th minute, when a goal by Salvino ultimately sealed the win for Drexel.
In the second half, the Dragons' defense only allowed a single shot while putting up five of their own.

The Dragons will travel to Erie to take on Mercyhurst on Sunday. Kick-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
