ERIE, Pa – The Drexel men's soccer team shutout the Mercyhurst Lakers, 2-0, on Sunday in Erie.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mercyhurst started the game with the ball, generating an early corner kick that the Dragons stopped. The teams struggled to gain possession of the ball before a shot by Ben Weller at 5:48 went wide left. The Lakers generated some opportunities in the 12^th minute, but a corner was ultimately cleared by Drexel. The teams traded possession before a Mercyhurst shot went high at 19:03. Both teams continued to generate opportunities, but neither found the back of the net until 31:05 when Aamir Ketbache connected with Worsfold-Gregg to give DU the lead. Mercyhurst responded with three shots on goal that were saved. The two teams battled for possession of the ball for the rest of the half, but neither was able to create any opportunities.

The second half started as a close, back-and-forth battle for possession. A Laker shot in the 51^st minute went high and was followed up with a 53^rd-minute shot saved by Bartell. Mercyhurst kept the pressure on Drexel until Christian Combs found Victor Moerck, who scored in the 58^th minute. Drexel followed up on the goal by keeping the pressure on the Lakers. A Gustavo Santana shot at 66:59 was saved. The game entered a weather delay at 69:50. The teams battled defensively out of the break. Mercyhurst had opportunities to score in the closing minutes, taking three shots in the final three minutes but was unable to find the back of the net.
