BRUNSWICK, Maine - Midway through their first seasons at the varsity level, the Drexel men's and women's squash teams will get back in action this weekend as they take part in the Maine Round Robin. Both teams will have four matches this weekend as they play for the first time since November.
The Drexel men went 4-5 during their fall schedule, with wins over Haverford, Fordham, Georgetown and Washington. Justin Singh earned seven individual match victories at the top spot on the Dragons' ladder, with Nick DiDonato and Kevin Sacherman each adding four wins.
The Dragons' best win came Nov. 13, when they downed No. 27 Georgetown, 5-4. Singh provided the clinching match at the top spot when he won, 11-2, 11-3, 11-5.
The Drexel women made strides during the fall as well, although they came up short of getting the team's first varsity victory. In the opener against Haverford, the women fell 6-3, with Davila Thompson, Anna Schmiedicke and Atiqah Shahrin getting the points. Andrea Miguelez would also earn an individual victory in the fall, winning at No. 7 against Johns Hopkins, 11-6, 11-7, 12-10.
Drexel's men will face Bowdoin on Friday evening, before facing Colby and M.I.T. on Saturday. They will wrap up the Maine Round Robin with a visit to Bates later Saturday evening. The women will also face Bowdoin on Friday, followed by Colby and Wellesley on Saturday before concluding against Tufts that afternoon.
