McArdle's Goal Leads No.15 Field Hockey Past Columbia, 1-0

New York, N.Y. – Junior Lindsay McArdle's first-half goal fueled No. 15 Drexel Field Hockey past Columbia, 1-0, in the team's fourth straight away game. The Dragons earned their fifth shutout of the season improving to 11-5 overall and 3-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Columbia dropped to 8-5 overall.
With just over eight minutes into the opening half, McArdle put the Dragons ahead by one, 1-0. Danielle Grassi played the ball towards McArdle who deflected the incoming pass into the right side of the cage past Columbia's Christie O'Hara. Drexel maintained the 1-0 lead for the remainder of the game. Junior Elise DiDonato added five shots on goal in the win.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jantien Gunter recorded 12 saves for a new season-high. On the day, Gunter and Drexel's defensive corner unit shut down 11 of the Lion's penalty corner attempts. While Columbia held a slim advantage in shots, 20-15, sophomore backs Rebecca Werner and Allyson Fuller also helped keep the Lion's from putting points on the board. Opposing goalkeeper Christie O'Hara turned away nine of Drexel's shots.
Drexel Field Hockey will return to action on Friday, October 19. The Dragons will host conference rival Delaware at 7:00 p.m. at Buckley Field.
