No. 23 Field Hockey Closes Regular-Season with 3-1 Win at Hofstra

Hempstead, N.Y. – No. 23 Drexel Field Hockey concluded regular-season play with a 3-1 victory at Hofstra on Sunday afternoon. The Dragons won both of their conference games this weekend earning the top-seed and host site for the 2012 Colonial Athletic Association Championships. Drexel bettered its record to 13-6 overall and 5-2 in the league.
Junior Lindsay McArdle put points on the board first for the Dragons. At 26:15, McArdle flicked the rebounded ball over opposing goalkeeper Kaitlyn De Turo giving Drexel a 1-0 lead extending into halftime. The Dragons outshot the Pride, 4-2, while both teams collected a penalty corner each in the first half.
Just two minutes into the final half, McArdle tipped the ball into the cage from teammate Elise DiDonato's pass broadening the lead to two. At 39:32, Hofstra's Melissa McCarthy answered with a goal to close the gap to one, 2-1.
With 23 minutes remaining in the game, senior captain Amanda Fleischut fired a shot into the goal after a pass from teammate Rebecca Werner during the Dragons' offensive penalty corner. Drexel held onto the 3-1 lead until the game clock expired.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jantien Gunter posted two saves totaling 104 stops on the season.
The first round of the 2012 CAA Championships will begin on Thursday, November 1 and will end on Sunday, November 4.
