Senior Alex Vasquez scored the game's only goal late in the match to give Drexel a 1-0 win at Northeastern on Thursday afternoon at Parsons Field. The win improved the Dragons record to 9-2-2 overall and 3-1-1 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Drexel now has nine victories, the most it has ever had in the program's history.
The Dragons and Huskies played an even, but uneventful first half. Neither team had many scoring opportunities. When the Huskies (4-8, 2-2 CAA) did have a chance, goalkeeper Eve Badana made the saves she needed to make. NU's Emily Nasuti and Morgan Hilby each had good chances, but Badana turned them aside as the teams went to the break scoreless.
Drexel came out much stronger in the second half and put the pressure on the Huskies' defense. The hard work finally paid off in the 74th minute. Vasquez picked up the ball after Drexel won the loose ball and fired it into the upper corner with her left foot, giving the Dragons the lead. It was the third goal of the season for Vasquez and proved to be the game-winner.
Badana made three saves for the Dragons to record her CAA-best seventh shutout of the year. The seven shutouts set a Drexel single-season record. The previous record was six set by Kaitlin Bond. Drexel outshot the Huskies, 9-6 overall, and 7-3 in the final 45 minutes.
With the victory the Dragons now have 10 points in CAA play in five matches. They will return home to face Hofstra on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Vidas Field. The Pride entered Thursday night's match with Delaware with a perfect 3-0 record in CAA play.
