AMHERST, Mass. - The Drexel men's and women's squash teams hit the road on Friday, beginning a weekend that will take them across New England. The opening matches came at Amherst College, where the men's squad took a 6-3 decision and the women fell by the same score. The Drexel men are now 2-3 on the season, having also defeated Connecticut College at the Kline & Specter Squash Center earlier in November. The women fell to 1-4 on the year with the defeat.\
On the men's side, Drexel got wins from five of its top six players as it clinched the victory. Justin Singh, playing at the No. 2 position, knocked off Alex Southmayd, 11-7, 11-5, 11-8. At No. 3, Binura Jayasunya won perhaps the match of the day when he prevailed over Scott DeSantis, 11-7, 9-11, 11-9, 11-13, 11-6.
Mike Dolente won at No. 4, 5-11, 11-4, 11-7, 11-9. Mark Kauf handled business at No. 5, 11-4, 12-10, 11-8. In the No. 6 position, Joey Gingold won 11-6, 12-10, 11-4. Finally, at No. 9, Ben Bevan downed Nick Sorrentino, 11-9, 11-4, 11-5.
On the women's side, Drexel got wins at the top of the ladder from Damindhi Udangawa at No. 1 (11-5, 11-4, 11-8) and Kaitlyn Money at No. 2 (14-12, 11-9, 11-2). Also victorious was Lauren Rahauser at No. 6, winning a tense five-set match over Khushy Aggarwal by coming back from an 0-2 deficit, 7-11, 7-11, 11-4, 11-8, 11-5. That would be all the women could muster, however, as Amherst earned the victory.
Drexel's teams will also take on Williams and Trinity tomorrow at Williams College, followed by a visit to Middlebury on Sunday.
