PHILADELPHIA - Hosting crosstown rival Temple, the Drexel men's tennis team showed encouraging signs on Monday afternoon, but ultimately fell to the Owls, 7-0, to start a three-match homestand.
The Dragons showed signs of improvement in doubles, although they fell in all three matches and dropped the doubles point. Badr Ouabdelmoumen and Dan Koehler dropped their match at No. 3 doubles, 8-5, the closest of the day. Bryan Nguyen and Daniel Hansen fell 8-4 at No. 2, while Skyler Davis and Jeganathan Srinivasan fell at No. 1, 8-3.
The singles match of the day was at No. 3, where Nguyen battled back and nearly won after falling down a set, 6-4 in the first. Nguyen showed impressive mental toughness, hanging in for a 7-5 victory in the second set. He was, in fact, serving for the match up 5-4 in the third before finally tiring, as he was defeated 6-4, 5-7, 7-5.
Srinivasan also played two very close sets. Some critical service breaks by his Owl opponent would end up costing Srinivasan a chance at the victory, as he ultimately fell at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 7-5.
Playing a tough opponent in senior Filip Rams, Ouabdelmoumen performed admirably at the top spot. He wound up falling 6-4, 6-2, but impressed with his determination. Ouabdelmoumen was done in by his inability to create approaching shots and follow ups to the net, which his coaches believed would have served him well down the stretch.
The Dragons will now take on Wagner on Saturday at the Armoy, getting started at 1:00 p.m.
