Boston - Drexel wrestling picked up two wins on the road as it downed Brown 23-13 before defeating Boston 24-14. The Dragons, 6-8 in dual matches this season, had five wrestlers go 2-0 on the day on their way to their first conference victory this year. No. 18 Joe Booth, Frank Cimato, Shane Fenningham, Brandon Palik and Kyle Frey all swept their opponents during the one-day two-dual road trip.
Drexel took six bouts in each match. Cimato got Drexel on the board first when he picked up the 8-6 decision over Brown's Grant Overchasier. The junior then took his match at 141 pounds against Boston's B.J. Suitor 10-7 picking up Drexel's first points against the Terriers as well. Fenningham outscored his opponents 7-1 on the day to move to 8-14 overall at 149 pounds.
Sophomore Austin Sommer went split matches but picked up a crucial pin at 157 pounds over Brown's Zack Kulczycki in 6:36 in Drexel's first dual. Sommer is now 13-13 on the year and tied for the lead with five falls on the squad. Booth continued in his winning ways and dominated at 165 pounds scoring 12 points to his opponents' two.
Freshman Nick Becattini picked up a win at 184 pounds when he blanked Boston's Andrew Swank 4-0 to move to 3-6 on the season. Palik earned his third major decision with a 10-2 win over Brown's Sterling Hecox before winning by forfiet in the Boston dual at 197 pounds. Frey, Drexel's senior heavy weight gave up only three points on his way to a 2-0 day including his fourth major decision of the year when he downed the Bears' Marcos Aranda 10-2.
Drexel will be back in action this Tuesday, February 7 as they host CAA rival Rider which the Dragons dropped a one-point match to earlier this year. The Dragons and the Broncs square off for a 7:00 p.m. dual in the John A. Daskalakis Athletic Center.
