BOX SCORE
ATLANTA - The Drexel softball team was swept in a three-game weekend series at Georgia State, dropping the finale on Sunday, 6-1. Hillary Allen started and took the loss for the Dragons, who fell to 18-19 overall and 3-8 in Colonial Athletic Association play.
Drexel fell behind 3-0 in the first inning, when Callie Alford slammed a three-run home run. They got a run back in the fourth when the Panthers' defense let them down. Jenn Reading led off with what should have been a routine fly ball to center field, but the ball was dropped and Reading moved around to second base safely. Allen then reached on a fielder's choice, but Reading beat the throw to third base and the Dragons had runners on first and third with no one out.
After Maddison Timoteo was hit by a pitch to load the bases, freshman Sylvia Llamas hit a grounder to first base that plated Reading, but allowed the Panthers to get the first out of the inning. Georgia State starter Kaitlyn Medlam then struck out the next two hitters to escape without any further damage.
The Panthers got three more in the bottom of the fourth on another three-run home run, this one off the bat of Ashley Christy. Drexel could not get anything else going offensively, and Georgia State finished off the sweep.
Drexel will return to Philadelphia for its next game, at nearby Penn on Wednesday evening. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
